Australia and the United States have announced a combined package worth around $580 million to support Pacific island nations.
The funding will focus on areas including energy security, infrastructure and efforts to combat drug trafficking. The announcement comes during the Pacific Islands Forum in Palau, where regional governments are also discussing security and China’s growing influence in the Pacific.
The initiative reflects increasing competition for strategic and economic influence across the Pacific region.
