Jordanian officials and a delegation from UN Women held discussions on Wednesday, September 2, about strengthening women’s participation in the country’s political, economic and public institutions.
The meeting focused on turning existing legal and policy reforms into practical and measurable programs that can improve opportunities for women. Officials also highlighted the importance of building on women’s educational achievements while addressing remaining barriers to greater participation.
The discussions included issues related to employment, political participation, elections and protection from violence. Jordanian officials said continued cooperation with UN Women could help develop sustainable programs to expand women’s role in public and economic life.
Women’s participation in decision-making remains an important issue across the region, particularly around equal access to employment, political representation, education and protection from violence.
